Yab and Abu
Yab is the older of the two. He has orange stripes, the colour of energy, and a slightly crooked mouth that makes him even more lovable. He is sharp, enthusiastic and curious.
Abu is the younger one. She is lilac with deeper lilac spots, the colour of calm, and has a tender smile. She is innocent, sweet and curious.
Both discover the world through play and share it with the viewer in a universal language. Their universe comes to life through animation, crafts, gags and other resources.
How Yababu! thinks
To resolve their conflicts, Yab and Abu rely mainly on emotional intelligence. The scripts follow a child-centred pedagogy based on autonomy, freedom, respect, and self-discovery. The only boundaries are respect for others, for shared spaces and for objects.
How it is made
The look is simple and minimalist. The puppets are the stars, so each story's setting is built on a black background. Sets and props use soft tones so nothing distracts, while the puppets wear bright colours to keep the attention on what they do.
Because we were thinking of a preschool audience, scenes are explained through sequence shots whenever possible. These are put together in post-production, which lets us play with virtual cameras and with layered work in After Effects. The whole team took part in creating the content, using theatre improvisation techniques, and it was made with a very small crew for an audiovisual production of this kind.
